Everybody knows that for every hero there is a villain, but the divide between “villain” and “bad guy” is a mile wide. Often the bad guy is just doing his job, however questionable, and made the poor decision to play for the wrong team. Perhaps they were the only ones that were hiring? But a true villain is something special: to be a villain one must consciously work against the greater good for the sake of their own profit. A villain is not a creature of circumstance, but must actively and consistently choose the wrong path.

In other words, I don’t consider a person or company to be villainous to suit my misanthropic whims on a given day; that particular title must be earned through repeated demonstrations of deliberate ill-intent, poor decisions, and sheer greed.
